Archduke Franz Ferdinand's Funeral Carriage

Through detailed archival research, the curators of the Civic Museums of Udine have reconstructed the provenance of the funeral carriage which has belonged to the Municipality of Udine since 1931 and is preserved in the storage of the Ethnographic Museum of Friuli. Most likely it is the same carriage that, on 2 July 1914, transported the body of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Habsburg during the historic homage that the city of Trieste paid to the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne in the turmoil that paved the way to the outbreak of the First World War after the Archduke's assassination in Sarajevo. The management of the Civic Museums of Udine hopes that the carriage can soon be restored with the contribution of some patrons.

Vanitas Casa della Confraternita (Castle of Udine) Free Entry Until Saturday 3 May 2025 Opening hours: Saturdays -Sundays 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Until Saturday 3 May 2025 the Casa della Confraternita will host the exhibition Vanitas organised by the Anthropoi XXI Cultural Association under the patronage of the Municipality of Udine, in collaboration with the Civic Museums of Udine and with the contribution of The Guide Artists Publishing. The exhibition presents a selection of the main large-format paintings realised over the last five years in Udine by maestro Carlo Alberto Palumbo (Naples, 1976 -), teacher of Life Drawing, Anatomy and Painting Techniques at the ‘GB Tiepolo’ Academy of Fine Arts in Udine. The artistic project focuses on the human body, the fulcrum of the creative and narrative process. The artistic nudes painted by the master are rich in alchemical and philosophical inspiration and become bearers of universal values through the contrast between the transience of the flesh and the transcendence of spiritual elevation.   Infowww.carloalbertopalumbo.ite-mail info[at]carloalbertopalumbo.itphone +39 3883628854www.anthropoi21.it

Easter Monday at Museums

On 21 April, on the occasion of Easter Monday, the Civic Museums of Udine will open the doors of their premises free of charge to visitors, with a series of programmes and guided tours held at the Castle, Casa Cavazzini and the Friuli Ethnographic Museum. The Castle of Udine will offer guided tours to discover the exhibition "Mimmo Jodice. The Enigma of Light". A number of guides will be available to the public, from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm, illustrating the exhibition and answering visitors' curiosities. Casa Cavazzini will propose the seventh edition of Music & Museums. Music will accompany visitors along the entire itinerary of their visit to the museum, alternating various genres: from classical symphonies to jazz and contemporary music. The protagonists of the musical moments will be Alessandra Commisso on viola, Monica Commisso as vocalist, Valentina Danelon on violin, Vincenzo di Francesco and Angela Macor on keyboard and Luca Gasparotto on transverse flute. The speeches will run from 15.00 to 17.45, ending with a grand finale at the Casa della Contadinanza on the Piazzale del Castello at 18.15. The Friuli Ethnographic Museum will host the travelling show “The Krama of Wonders”, highlighting objects from the permanent collections. The event, designed primarily for families with children aged 6 and over, will be divided into several interactive events in the museum rooms. The public will be directly involved in the creation of a story whose protagonist will be time: the time marked by the clocks on display, the time of the seasons and its rituals, the meteorological time and the most ancient knowledge, time past, present and future. The narration will take its cue from tradition and will feature four story-counters from the early 20th century, who will involve visitors in a fascinating game of discovery. During the course of the day, five shows, lasting approximately 45 minutes, will animate the museum rooms at 11 a.m. and in repetition at 12 noon, 2.30 p.m., 3.30 p.m. and finally 4.30 p.m. Places are limited, 20 people for each show, booking required by writing to the museum ticket office or calling 0432.1272591.For further information 0432.1272591
