Archduke Franz Ferdinand's Funeral Carriage

Through detailed archival research, the curators of the Civic Museums of Udine have reconstructed the provenance of the funeral carriage which has belonged to the Municipality of Udine since 1931 and is preserved in the storage of the Ethnographic Museum of Friuli. Most likely it is the same carriage that, on 2 July 1914, transported the body of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Habsburg during the historic homage that the city of Trieste paid to the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne in the turmoil that paved the way to the outbreak of the First World War after the Archduke's assassination in Sarajevo. The management of the Civic Museums of Udine hopes that the carriage can soon be restored with the contribution of some patrons.

November-December 2023 : Casa Cavazzini : Partial Closure

From 21 November to 6 December 2023 Casa Cavazzini will be closed. The exhibition Gino Valle. La professione come sperimentazione continua (Gino Valle. Profession as Never-Ending Experimentation) will be installed and the permanent collections will be rearranged.

In November 2023 the Civic Museums of Udine will host some exhibitions with free admission. Mons. Francesco Tomadini. Un operaio della Carità Tina Modotti Gallery (former Fish Market) via Paolo Sarpi, Udine From 6 November to 3 December 2023 Monday-Thursday 10am-12pm Friday 10am-12pm and 4pm-6pm Saturday 10am-12pm and 4pm-7pm Sunday 9am-12pm The exhibition investigates the spiritual and temporal journey of the figure of Francesco Tomadini and the foundation of the boarding school that bears his name. Trasparenza di una società che corre Casa della Confraternita Udine Castle (close to the church of Santa Maria di Castello) From 11 November to 10 December 2023 Saturday and Sunday 10-12 am and 2-6 pm The exhibition promoted by the International Committee 'Romeo and Juliet in Friuli' APS recounts, through the paintings of the artist Gianpaolo Klavora (Klavier), the silence and loneliness to which the human being is condemned and, at the same time, explores and narrates the soul, investigating a changing society made up of lonely people and moments destined not to last.   Trasformazioni 1856-2020. Luoghi e persone nella fotografia artistica Church of San Francesco via beato Odorico da Pordenone, 1, Udine From 18 November 2023 to 7 January 2024 Friday 15-19 Saturday and Sunday 11-19 The IRPAC (Regional Institute for Cultural Promotion and Animation) exhibition presents a selection of photographs by more than 30 artists, from the pioneers of art and research photography to the new generation of the contemporary scene, passing through the pictorialists and neo-realists, narrating the social history and urban changes of the territory.

Meals and banquets in Renaissance in Udine

In the year of the universal exhibition in Milan, dedicated to the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, an itinerary has been created starting from archaeological finds and the rich cultural heritage of the city in order to illustrate the food, books, furnishings and rituals of the Friulian noble families in the 15th and 16th century.
