Archduke Franz Ferdinand's Funeral Carriage

Through detailed archival research, the curators of the Civic Museums of Udine have reconstructed the provenance of the funeral carriage which has belonged to the Municipality of Udine since 1931 and is preserved in the storage of the Ethnographic Museum of Friuli. Most likely it is the same carriage that, on 2 July 1914, transported the body of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Habsburg during the historic homage that the city of Trieste paid to the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne in the turmoil that paved the way to the outbreak of the First World War after the Archduke's assassination in Sarajevo. The management of the Civic Museums of Udine hopes that the carriage can soon be restored with the contribution of some patrons.

Exhibition in Casa della Confraternita (Free Admission) March-April 2025

Vanitas Casa della Confraternita (Castle of Udine) Free Entry From Saturday 1 March to Saturday 5 April 2025 Opening hours: Thursdays -Sundays 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. From Saturday 1 March to Saturday 5 April 2025 the Casa della Confraternita will host the exhibition Vanitas organised by the Anthropoi XXI Cultural Association under the patronage of the Municipality of Udine, in collaboration with the Civic Museums of Udine and with the contribution of The Guide Artists Publishing. The exhibition presents a selection of the main large-format paintings realised over the last five years in Udine by maestro Carlo Alberto Palumbo (Naples, 1976 -), teacher of Life Drawing, Anatomy and Painting Techniques at the ‘GB Tiepolo’ Academy of Fine Arts in Udine. The artistic project focuses on the human body, the fulcrum of the creative and narrative process. The artistic nudes painted by the master are rich in alchemical and philosophical inspiration and become bearers of universal values through the contrast between the transience of the flesh and the transcendence of spiritual elevation. The exhibition programme is enriched by two special events:- Sunday 16 March 2025 10:00 a.m. music and drawing performance held by maestro Carlo Alberto Palumbo in collaboration with professor Francesca Valentina Salcioli (lecturer in Art Therapy at the ‘GB Tiepolo’ Academy of Fine Arts in Udine)- Sunday 30 March 2025 10:00 a.m. oil portrait demonstration from life carried out by maestro Carlo Alberto Palumbo using traditional methods. The works created during the events will be donated by the artist to the Civic Museums of Udine.During the Sunday mornings of the exhibition period it will be possible to meet the artist to get an autograph of the new monographic catalogue published by the Spanish publishing house The Guide Artists Publishing.
